Four Taiwanese comic artists - Elainee Fang (房瑞儀), Hom (翁瑜鴻), Lin Li-chin (林莉菁), and Ho Hsueh-yi (何學儀) - showcased their works at the 7th Comic Salon in Paris (Le Salon de la BD à Paris) from Dec. 8 through 10.
Hom, who has been selected by the Ministry of Culture to join the 2017-2018 residency program in Angouleme, is an award-winning artist who has won accolades from the Golden Comic Awards and Comico Competition in 2011 and 2015.
Fang, a recent graduate of the UK Royal College of Art, is an emerging artist and former guest columnist of Paperplane magazine. Fang has since published her own magazine and held several exhibitions across Taiwan. She has been selected to join the residency program in Angouleme as well.
Lin is an award-winning artist recognized by the Angouleme International Comics Festival and curator of Planet Manga, a 2012 Taiwan-themed comics month at Pompidou Centre. Her debut work, "My Youth, My Formosa (我的青春，我的Formosa)," was inspired by her childhood memories of Taiwan under martial law.
Ho, who specialized in telling dark humor stories, has self-published comics such as "Mr. Bunny's Adventure (兔子先生冒險記)." Her works have been showcased in Angouleme, Paris, and Hong Kong. She received prizes from the 2016 Angouleme International Comics Festival as well as Polymanga 2017.
Every year, SoBD invites a country and a comic artist as the guest of honor to showcase their works. Taiwan was selected as the guest of honor in 2015 and held an acclaimed exhibition featuring the history of Taiwan comics.
