The 2015 Biennale de Lyon has selected the works by Taiwanese artists Yuan Goang-ming (袁廣鳴) and Lai Chih-Sheng (賴志盛) to showcase in its "La vie modern” exhibition, with Yuan's work used as the poster image of the 13th biennale.
Curated by Ralph Rugoff, director of the Hayward Gallery in London, "La vie modern” is one of the 3 exhibitions presented by the biennale this year. It will bring together 60 artists from 28 countries to present artworks with different cultural context and aesthetics from Sept. 10 through Jan. 3, 2016.
Yuan is a leading artist specializing in video art in Taiwan. He combines images and video installation to create artworks that express his ideas. In recent years, Yuan has used the images spanning daily life, family memories, ancient ruins, power stations, and the Executive Yuan in his works. The poster image taken from Yuan's work "Landscape of Energy (能量的風景)” was chosen by Rugoff to highlight the modern theme of the exhibition.
Lai is an expert in space whose artistic themes focus on time and emotions, leading viewers to have a different vision and understanding toward the world. His works allow audience to engage with space where they can experience the realities of the imaginary world created by Lai.
Headed by artistic director Thierry Raspail, the Biennale de Lyon is one of the most important contemporary exhibitions in Europe. It aims to bring together artists with different backgrounds to express their contemporary ideas, and encourage viewers to re-think, re-imagine, and question the concept of each artwork.
