With the combined support of five government agencies, the inaugural Taipei Fashion Week will take place at the newly established Taiwan Traditional Theater Center from Dec. 6 through 9, offering 60 cultural exhibitions, 8 walkway shows, 6 international forums, 4 themed fashion showcases, and the best of Taiwan's 2019 Spring/Summer collections.
"2018 Taipei Fashion Week SS19" is jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Hakka Affairs Council, Council of Indigenous Peoples, and Taipei City’s Department of Cultural Affairs, along with six associations representing Taiwan's fashion, textiles, clothing, pop culture, arts, and modelling industries.
Out of the four special themed sections, the first two will represent the fashion and aesthetics of Taiwan's indigenous peoples and Hakka communities, while the latter two will be devoted to showcasing works that take inspiration from Taiwan's traditional performance arts and recent innovations in unconventional materials and craftsmanship. Over 60 designs will join the runway to delineate how these four themes reflect the cultural qualities of Taiwan.
The host venue, Taiwan Traditional Theater Center, will also utilize its state-of-the-art stage facilities and playhouses to offer a "museum of Taiwan fashion" by incorporating its theatrical rigging system and light projection to spotlight 120 fashion sets by 60 designers.
The catwalk design will also pay tribute to the natural landscapes of Taiwan, with imagery of mountains and rivers and the sea being projected onto the runways that will host the latest collections by visiting international designers. The full list of guests and fashion brands will be announced on Nov. 30.
This year's promotional videos were directed by veteran photographer Joshua Lin, who sought to capture the unique side of each Taiwan Fashion Week ambassador to reflect the 2018 slogan "Uniquely You." The main visual display and graphic design of the event were derived from Taiwan's textiles and coiling mountains.
Join fashion buyers, industry experts, and style icons on Dec. 6 for the grand opening event of the inaugural Taipei Fashion Week.
