This September, eight Taiwanese set designers will set off for the British city of Cardiff to compete in the 2013 World Stage Design (WSD), in which Taiwan's Ministry of Culture is an official partner.
The eight designers will compete with some 109 other entries from 30 countries and regions. They were chosen from over 600 designers who applied for a slot in the quadrennial event, marking Taiwan as having the third highest number of successful entries to the coveted affair.
The eight Taiwanese entries are:
Lighting design category
Multimedia design category
Original costumes category
Stage setting design
The theater exhibition is at the heart of the festival and will feature a selection of the most innovative and ground-breaking designs for performance from around the world. This unique collection of international works will include original costumes, puppetry, drawings, paintings, photographs and props alongside interactive exhibits from lighting, video and sound designers.
The Ministry will also sponsor three performances, namely "Seventh Sense” by Anarchy Dance Theatre and Ultra Combos, "A True Calling” by Ex-Asia Theater and "All That's Left to Happen is Some Deaths (My Own Included)” by Against Again Troupe, to participate at the Scenofest, which will run between Sept. 8 and 14 as part of the 2013 World Stage Design in the U.K.
The Ministry of Culture will also support an initiative jointly proposed by the Taiwan Association of Theatre Technology and Taipei National University of the Arts, in which the two organizations hope to help Taiwan win the bid to host the 2017 World Stage Design.
