Cloud Gate 2, the junior division of the world-renowned Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, is set to perform its newest moves in New York this October.
"On the Road,” an evening-length work by Cloud Gate Associate Artistic Director Cheng Tsung-lung, will make its U.S. premiere at the Joyce Theatre Foundation in Chelsea.
To be performed by three male dancers, "On the Road” consists of playful duets and trios and features contemporary dance elements derived from Taiwan's diverse blend of cultures, including aboriginal dance moves and religious rituals.
Conceived by choreography Cheng while he roamed the terrain of southwestern China, the piece unfolds slowly with deliberate pace, continuously engaging the audience along its path towards enlightenment.
Set to scores ranging from Taiwanese folk songs and traditional Naxi to Islamic music and Tom Waits' smoky voice, "On the Road” unites Eastern and Western tradition to convey a powerful artistic message.
