The Ministry's two pop music infrastructure projects consist of the northern Taipei Pop Music Center and the southern Maritime Cultural and Popular Music Center.
Approved by the Executive Yuan in 2008 and 2009 respectively, the northern and southern centers aim to:
The Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development has also carried out supplementary programs, including personnel training and human resource development for the two music centers as part of preparations for the their openings.
The construction base of the Taipei PopMusicCenter is located in the Nangang District ofTaipei City. The site is approximately 7.65 hectares and lies at a transportation hub which connects to highways, the Taiwan High Speed Rail, the Taiwan Railway and the Taipei Metro.
The facility will include a large indoor concert hall with 6,300 seats, a large outdoor performance space, smaller outdoor performance spaces, a pop music culture museum including a hall of fame, a special zone for creative industries and training space.
The construction work is scheduled to begin in 2013, and to be completed in 2016.
The site for the Maritime Cultural andPopular Music Center, which is located at Kaohsiung's Pier 11 to 15, covers some 11.49 hectares and features harbor and ocean landscapes.
By the time the center is completed in 2015, it will have a concert hall with 5,500 seats, an outdoor performance space, several smaller concert halls, a pop music culture museum, a maritime technology exhibition center, a music shopping mall and a transportation terminal.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2013.
