One of northern Germany's largest street festivals will hold a qualifying match for an international breakdancing competition in Taipei, in which Taiwanese break dancers ― Bboy Bojin (陳柏均) and B-Boy Kenny G (簡嘉呈) ― will join respectively as a judge and a competitor this June.
The STAMP (Street Arts Melting Pot) Festival in Hamburg's Altona District is an outdoor celebration of human creativity that is free of fixed schedules, entrance fees, or boundaries between artists and audience members. Parades and performances are served up with hip-hop dance battles, art installations, and street graffiti.
This year’s edition of STAMP Festival will include "The Smash Up," a dance-off for all urban styles, including bboying, house, hip-hop, and krump. What’s more, "The Smash Up" is the preliminary round of Taipei Bboy City in Taiwan. The winner of the one-on-one break dancing match will fly to Taipei and compete in the world final this December.
Blending break dancing with traditional kung-fu, Bboy Bojin is the founder of H.R.C (Hyper Rush Crew) and curator of Taipei Bboy City 2018. Bboy Kenny G is a young, talented dancer who will be representing Taiwan at this year's Argentine Youth Olympics in the break dancing category.
Bojin will be one of the judges at "The Smash Up," while Kenny G will be in competition. The two-day event will be held on June 2 and 3 at Neue Grosse Bergstrasse, which is directly across from the Altona train station.
Winners of the four other categories will receive a cash prize ranging from 100 to 300€, while the bboy winner will receive the chance to compete in Taipei Bboy City, one of the largest platforms for break dancing in Asia and an official leg of the international World B-Boy Series.
