Taiwanese authors Chu You-hsun (朱宥勳) and Huang Li-chun (黃麗群), who are currently in Germany for the Literary Colloquium Berlin (LCB) residency program, will share their literary works at a recital night scheduled for March 21 and 28 in Berlin.
Titled "Impressions From the Edge of the World - Literature @ Taiwan (Eindrücke vom Rand der Welt – Literatur@Taiwan)," the two recitations will be hosted by noted editor Meike Schlueter, who has also hosted several recitation events featuring Taiwanese authors at the Leipzig Book Fair for the past three years.
The recitations will also invite the Central News Agency's foreign correspondent Lin Yu-li (林育立), who is also the author of the Taipei International Book Exhibition top prize-winning non-fiction "Die Macht in der Mitte Europas : Wie sich Deutschland neu erfindet (歐洲的心臟：德國如何改變自己)," to serve as the interpreter.
Born in 1988, Chu is a novelist who has won the Lin Rung-san Literary Prize. Since 2010, he has released two short story collections including "False Delivery (誤遞)" and "Barren Land (堊觀)" as well as a novel titled "Dark Shadow (暗影)."
Born in 1979, Huang is also a winner of the Lin Rung-san Literary Prize as well as other literary prizes. She has published a novel called "The Room by the Sea (海邊的房間)" and a prose collection titled "The Song Behind (背後歌)."
After introductions by Schlueter, the event will begin with recitations by Chu and Huang of their respective works in Chinese, followed by Schlueter's recitation of German translations to lead audiences into the imaginative world created by the authors' books.
After reciting the two authors' works, Schlueter will ask questions and explore meanings behind the text for audiences to feel and understand these literary works from Taiwan, the eponymous edge of the world for which the event was named after.
