The Ministry of Culture has completed the selection process for the “Host/Participation Subsidy Program for International Art Fairs” (視覺藝術產業辦理或參加國際藝術展會) for the first chapter of 2015, in which more than NT$12 million will be provided for 23 Taiwan-based galleries and art institutes to participate in 10 international art fairs.
International art fairs have become an integral part of promoting the development of the visual arts industry and the 23 local galleries and art institutes will be subsidized to participate in such major professional art fairs as Art Basel HK, Art Stage Singapore, and Art Brussels, as well as such peripheral and emerging art fairs as Art Beijing, Art 15 London, Asia Contemporary Art Show HK, LISTE Art Fair Basel, Art Madrid Contemporary Art Fair, and Citizen Art Shanghai (AArt).
To build an important trade-matching platform for Taiwan’s visual arts industry and enhance the opportunities for local young-and-upcoming artists to connect with the international community, the Ministry of Culture will continue to support the annual Art Taipei expo to secure Taiwan as an important cornerstone for international galleries to enter the Asian market.
Launched in 2012, the subsidy project is implemented in two phases every year and the applications for the second phase in 2015 will be accepted in April. The Ministry hopes to expand local presence on the international art market and enhance Taiwanese artists’ global exposure through this project.
