To help mainland Chinese audiences better enjoy Taiwan's performing arts, as well as to allow Taiwan-based artists to experience the cultural environment of mainland China, the Ministry of Culture subsidizes many established Taiwanese troupes to stage their performances across the Taiwan Strait.
The subsidies are offered twice a year to local performing art groups that:
Have been legally registered for at least five years.
Specialize in music, dance, modern opera or traditional Chinese opera.
Have extensive performance experience and received professional recognition.
Through the Classic Performing Arts Tour, classic Taiwanese groups including the Paper Windmill Theatre, the Theatre de la Sardine, and the Godot Theatre Company have been able to successfully hold ticketed tours across major Chinese cities.
Such exchanges can facilitate further collaboration in our respective cultural and creative sectors, and help Taiwan's performing arts professionals become more competitive in the greater Chinese-speaking market.
